The printed syllabus notes distributed covering the Sensory section of this course are an extended outline of the subjects covered. They include most of the material contained in these computer-based Lecture notes. There is room on the printed syllabus pages for you to add your own notes based on the lecture presentations, text readings, Internet resources, etc.

I suggest you follow along with the syllabus notes as you listen to the lecture presentations, pausing the presentation to add your own comments to the syllabus.

Conventions for these Computer-base Lecture Notes:

Green text: added material in addition to what is in the syllabus
Red text: corrections of syllabus errors
Violet text: link to review or optional material
(=>) or (==>): link to a figure or table or another page
Underline: link to another page or web site (usually)

Printing the Computer-based Lecture Notes:

The notes you are now reading employ fonts that display well on computer screens and projectors. If you print these notes, you might wish to use smaller fonts to get more material on a page. To change to smaller fonts in Internet Explorer, click on the "View" menu item, from the dropdown list click on "Text Size", and then select either "Smaller" or "Smallest".

The home page, "Neuroscience: Sensory Systems", has eight boxes representing links to the course presentation and resources. Clicking on a link displays the resource. The resources are the following:

Lectures: Clicking on goes to the list of lectures. Clicking on the lecture title displays the lecture material. Note that in addition to the lecture titles, there is an entry termed "Glossary" which links to a list of many of the technical terms used in the notes along with their definitions.

Practice Questions: Clinking on the displays a list of the topics for which there are practice questions or problems. Answers to the questions will be made available as the course progresses.

Resource Links: Clicking brings up a list of web sites containing material related to the course — alternative presentations, clinical or other applications, practice examinations from other schools, etc. If you are connected to the Internet, clicking on the name of the web site goes to that site. If you are not connected to the Internet, you will get an error message.

Course Objectives: Clicking on Course Objectives displays an outline of the main topics in this section of the course to form a basis for your review.

Text References: Clicking on Text References brings up an annotated list of textbooks suitable for this course. For the primary text(s), chapters and resources covering the material of each lecture are listed.

Student Questions: When a questions or comment is submitted by a student and I think this raises points whose discussion would be helpful to others students, I'll post the question and my response in this section. I will not use the name of the student who submitted the question/comment without the student's permission.
